Let the speculation begin. Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed the title for the next Star Wars trilogy movie, hitting theatres in December.
The Last Jedi.
A little underwhelming, maybe? Boring, perhaps? But, effective. And revealing. Or is it? Who is the Last Jedi? Probably Luke. Or is it Rey? Hmmm. Obviously the new movie will pick up where it left off —
Side note: If it does pick up where The Force Awakens left off (with Rey holding out Luke’s lightsaber to him) what will the opening crawl be about? Discuss in the comments below.
But, what if The Last Jedi is not Luke Skywalker nor Rey? Wouldn’t that be too easy? What if it in fact refers to Ben Solo (aka Kylo Ren?) Would he be “The Last Jedi” Luke trained? I’d love to see some flashbacks and get some background into why Ben became Kylo and joined the Knights of Ren.
There’s a lot to think about between now and December. Plus, it’s just a title. It’s not actionable like the others, but who cares? The Clones didn’t attack. What were the Sith revenging? Why was the force asleep? The Menace wasn’t a Phantom. Titles don’t always make sense.
All that matters is that Rian Johnson delivers a kick ass movie that isn’t a total reimagining of The Empire Strikes Back.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theatres on December 15
and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, and Mark Hamill.
